What About Divorce?

Have you "felt" dejected, illusioned or rejected because you have experienced a divorce, or even two???

It would be well with you to know God Himself is a two-time Divorcee! Well you say: "That's not in the Bible," or "That's a little far fetched," or "Where is that in theology???"

God Himself divorced, in fact, He even drowned all the Antediluvians (His First Wife) except eight (His own spiritual, faithful children from the marriage) which were saved - during The Flood - in Noah's Ark. Scripture says, "And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented [did not allow them to have their will to be more than His Will should be followed by them] the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them." Genesis 6:5-7. The fact that God is a God of love being He Is The I Am That I Am, His wrath always opposes which, that, or who may be and do against Him.

Then God was the husband of His next, or Second Bride which was the Nation of Old Testament Israel. (Please be advised and mindful that this does not apply to the New State of Israel which was established in 1948. For they are definitely addressed with John 3:16, the likes and love of God for wayward souls of which are drawn from the four corners of the earth.) But because they kept insisting to stay in the desert or wilderness of sin, and not have all God had promised to share as their Husband, He divorced His Second Bride as well. There are many verses of Scripture subtantiating His rejection, but here are a few:

" And the Lord said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt have corrupted themselves: they have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. And the Lord said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation. And Moses besought the Lord his God, and said, Lord, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? (Exodus 32:7-11).

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children" (Hosea 4:6).

"And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also" (Jeremiah 3:8).

"Thus saith the Lord, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away" (Isaiah 50:1).

And at the end of Christ's life of service here on this earth, He cried: "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate" (Matthew 23:36, 37).

What is the point here? It is this. Every "whosoever" living today in this Age of Grace may have, hold on to, and boldly share all God promised to His former "unfaithful wives" who were not impressed with His Intrinsic and Extrinsic Values (Virtues) He Himself possessed. So now, God not only gives His Virtuous Life to and dwells within His New-Found Third Bride by sanctifying her by setting her apart as an earthly Companion here and Now, but seals His Bride to be His throughout the endless ages to come - Eternally Forever and Ever! See Ephesians 5:21-30.

Also, those who have experienced a divorce when they had full intentions at the time of the marriage that it would "last forever," may be assured that God has not cast them off, as He did make allowance for divorce in His Holy Word. See Mattthew 5:31, 32; Matthew 19:6-8; Mark 10:3-5.

As much as the coined phrase is used: "The third is a charm," it certainly makes "good sense" that no matter how many relationships - like the Samaritan woman at the well Jesus confronted and to which she finally pleased Him to have a purified more abundant Life) - so you can too!
